Osho Tarot

Q: I have an Osho Zen Tarot card deck that I’m still getting to know and understand. I was trying to match up the Major Arcana cards with the traditional tarot deck (Rider-Waite) and I’m not sure which is which.

A: Even though the Osho Zen Tarot is based on the Rider-Waite Tarot deck, most of the Major Arcana card names differ. Because the Osho Zen Tarot is a creative reinterpretation of the Rider-Waite Tarot, it isn’t always clear which Osho card corresponds to which Rider-Waite-Smith Tarot card. The Osho Zen Tarot usually comes with a book that makes it all quite clear, but if you don’t have the book, its easy to get lost!

Below I have matched up the Osho Zen Tarot cards to their Traditional Rider-Waite Major Arcana counterparts (Osho cards are in bold):

0 Fool – The Fool
1 The Magician – Existence
2 The High Priestess – Inner Voice
3 The Empress – Creativity
4 The Emperor – The Rebel
5 The Heirophant – No-Thingness
6 The Lovers – The Lovers
7 The Chariot – Awareness
8 Strength – Courage
9 The Hermit – Aloneness

Osho Zen Tarot doesn't follow traditional tarot much, but maybe that's what you'd expect. Traditional tarot lays out more specific and grounded answers like looking back at the past, competition being an issue, poverty or boredom occurring as examples of what it does. Osho's tarot on the other hand takes on a more spiritual and less definite. The Osho Transformation Tarot is a collection of timeless parables and teaching stories from the world’s great wisdom traditions, as told by the contemporary mystic Osho. These stories - from Zen or Sufism, from the lives of Jesus, Buddha, or Lao Tzu - are packaged as a set of cards with accompanying booklet. The Osho Zen Tarot focuses instead on gaining an understanding of the here and now. It is a system based on the wisdom of Zen, which shows that the outer world simply reflects our own thoughts and feelings, even as we might be unclear about what those thoughts and feelings are.

Charles Misodi Njapa (born March 5, 1976), better known by his stage name 88-Keys, is an American record producer and rapper from New York City. Osho zen tarot cards are different than the normal deck. They not only help you find answers to your day to day questions but show you the everything in the light of zen. Solve the problems of life with awareness. Every event of your life is inside cards. It’s mystical to learn to reveal those mysteries.

The images on the cards of the Osho Zen Tarot are contemporary modern paintings that even the inexperienced user will be able to relate to. The conditions and states of mind shown on the cards are essentially transitional – and if we can just take a look and see things as they are, the act of seeing can transform them.

'If you have looked meditatvely at the Tarot card… And they are cards to be meditated upon; they are old secret methods of meditation. The Fool is standing on the cliff, one foot dangling, hanging over the cliff – and he is not aware, and he is looking at the stars and he is very happy. His head must be full of dreams. And he is carrying four sacred symbols on his back, and he is not aware what they are. he is not even aware that he is carrying four secret symbols on his back. These are the four secret symbols: the jungle, the forest, the garden, the home. ..' --Osho, The Path of Love Talk #3
